Welcome to my website!
I'm Jeannie Weiner, author of Santa Fe Sister: A Novel.

About the Author
I am a freelance writer and community activist. I grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and now live in the suburbs of Detroit.

As a writer for the local Detroit newspapers and the Detroit Jewish News, I am frequently asked about my Santa Fe roots. Santa Fe Sister, a debut novel, evolved after responding to questions about Santa Fe and the circuitous route Jews took to arrive there.

I began the book, initially, by borrowing the story of my parents' arrival in New Mexico from their homes in Hungary. Mitzi, the main character, developed from my involvement with many organizations concerned with mental health and the well being of women and girls.

About Santa Fe Sister: A Novel

Jeannie Weiner's compelling novel weaves quirky, yet believable characters, through the ordeal of a father's haunting past.

The book opens when Mitzi, age 12, skips home and announces to her father that she has just had a soft drink with a boy.  She is stunned when her father's reaction is to knock her to the floor.

Tony Hillerman, New Mexico's most endearing writer of Navajo mysteries, after reading Santa Fe Sister, told the author, "You have talent!"

A recent reader, a high school counselor, has recommended Santa Fe Sister as required reading for all adolescent women.

Santa Fe Sister is available online and at Collected Works and Garcia Street Books in Santa Fe, Treasure House Books and Alamosa Books in Albuquerque. It is also available at Horizon Books in Traverse City, MI, and in Petoskey and Boyne, Michigan bookstores.
